USA – Tropical Cyclone Isaias strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane on Monday, 03 August, prior to making landfall near Ocean Isle Beach in North Carolina, USA. Since then, at least 6 people have died in the USA as the storm made its way north, spawning tornadoes and bringing heavy rain and sustained winds of over 100 km/h. Storm surge caused coastal flooding in parts of North and South Carolina. Emergency services were called on to rescue people trapped in flooded homes in Brunswick County, North Carolina. More than 3,000 people were evacuated from Ocracoke Island, part of North Carolina’s coastal Outer Banks region.

South Korea – More flooding and landslides have been reported in South Korea after days of heavy rainfall. Some areas recorded more than 500mm of rain between 01 and 04 August, 2020. Flooding affected North Chungcheong and Gyeonggi Province on 02 August. Since then officials reported a total of 13 dead and 13 missing, with more than 1,000 people evacuated and over 5,000 hectares of farm land inundated. Six people died in a landslide in Gyeonggi Province on 03 August. Another fatality was reported in South Chungcheong Province. Six people were reported missing in North Chungcheong Province.
