Wildfires - Washington, USA

Several wildfires lit up Washington state on Tuesday, destroying at least one home and threatening dozens of others.

In eastern Washington, a brush fire burned at least one property and forced a number of homes in a rural neighborhood to evacuate The fire scorched nearly 4 square miles east of Walla Walla near Blue Creek and Klicker Mountain.

In central Washington, another brush fire near the town of George also threatened 50 homes and led to brief evacuations Monday.

Yet another brush fire about 25 miles northeast of Seattle briefly closed U.S. Highway 2 in both directions near Monroe late Monday afternoon. It is burning just west of State Route 9.

Wildfires - Bosnia

Firefighters and villagers are struggling to keep raging wildfires away from homes in southern Bosnia and on the Croatian coast as temperatures reach 42 Celsius (107.6 Fahrenheit).

Since the early morning hours Tuesday, residents of Bosansko Grahovo and Bileca are fighting the flames and have requested the help of the Bosnian Army.

In Croatia, authorities have evacuated a village on the Adriatic peninsula of Peljesac where a fire advancing along a 2-kilometre front has engulfed pine forests, vineyards and several houses.
