Wildfires - West USA

CALIFORNIA

Campgrounds were evacuated and hundreds of homes were threatened by a two-square-mile wildfire in Sierra national forest north of Fresno. It was 5% contained.

Four firefighters were injured Sunday and a fire engine was damaged in a wildfire threatening as many as 200 homes in the Sierra Nevada foothills north-east of Sacramento. The fire was 20% contained.

GLACIER NATIONAL PARK

Fire crews were taking advantage of cooler, wet weather in fighting a fire in Glacier national park in Montana that has burned about five square miles on the north shore of St Mary Lake since it started 21 July. The fire was 30% contained.

WASHINGTON STATE

A wildfire that has burned nearly 10 square miles and destroyed one home in south-east Washington state is about 50% contained. It started 20 July and was human-caused.
