Worldwide fatalities surged past 11,000 on Saturday. More than 277,000 people have been infected.

Italy announced another 627 deaths on Friday, the biggest day-to-day increase in the country’s four-week epidemic, a day after surpassing China’s death toll. The total number of deaths in Italy has now reached 4,032. Spain’s death toll has also increased to more than 1,300 while the number of registered cases in the country rose to 24,926 on Saturday from 19,980 in the previous tally announced on Friday, while in Iran, the number on fatalities hit another grim milestone of more than 1,500, as the country marks the beginning of the Persian New Year.

Switzerland – The latest numbers show the country has seen 5,544 cases to date, including 56 deaths. Meetings of more than five people in public spaces are prohibited.

New York, USA – New York State health officials reported an additional 2,950 confirmed cases of novel coronavirus, bringing the statewide total to 7,102. 4,408 cases are reported in New York City. In addition, 42 total deaths have been reported.

South Korea – South Korea reported 147 new coronavirus infections on Saturday. The new cases bring the country’s total to 8,799.
