Iran – Iran is grappling with potentially devastating floods in 16 provinces amid a coronavirus epidemic that has killed thousands, with tens of thousands infected. Unusual snowfalls have blanketed many highland regions in Iran since April 8 and countries to the east, including Tajikistan and other Central Asian countries. Rain has inundated many cities and villages. Emergency services have come to the rescue of many settlements and stranded passengers from western Iran to central regions and farther east near Afghanistan and Pakistan.

North Dakota, USA – The Red River at Grand Forks remains in major flood stages and was observed at 46.92 feet Saturday afternoon, although river levels are continuing to recede. National Weather Service projections show the flood will be downgraded to moderate stages around Monday, April 13. Meanwhile, the river is cresting near Oslo, and was observed Saturday at 37.91 feet. Flood levels are expected to recede slowly over the next week, but will remain in major flood stages at the end of the NWS forecast window on April 18. Below-freezing temperatures forecast for the upcoming week will slow any remaining snowmelt into the river system, according to the National Weather Service.
