Tropical Storms – Roundup of Tropical Storms:

In the Eastern Pacific Ocean: Tropical depression 10e (Ten), located approximately 921 nm south-southeast of San Diego, is tracking west-northwestward at 09 knots.

Hurricane 08e (Hilda), located approximately 1082 nm south-southwest of San Diego, is tracking west-northwestward at 07 knots.

In the western Pacific Ocean: Tropical depression 12w (Twelve), located approximately 79 nm south of Minami Tori Shima, is tracking north-northwestward at 16 knots.

Niger – According to national authorities in Niger, as many as 35 people have died as a result of flooding and heavy rains in the country since the start of the rainy season. At least 20 people died as a result of houses collapsing, while 15 people drowned in flood waters. Twenty-four people were injured. Fatalities were reported in the regions of Maradi, Agadez and the capital Niamey. Furthermore, over 2,500 houses and shelters were destroyed, along with schools, mosques and places of work. Over 700 livestock also perished.

Afghanistan – As many as 113 people have now lost their lives in the catastrophic floods that struck in Nuristan Province, Afghanistan in late July 2021. As many as 173 houses were completely destroyed or washed away, suggesting there are likely many more people still missing. The floods swept through a narrow ravine late on 28 July, wiping out much of the village of Miardish in Kamdesh district. The damage has not only taken dozens of lives but also destroyed livelihoods

Colombia – Severe flooding in Arauca Department in eastern Colombia has affected over 50,000 people since mid-July. Many of those affected are refugees from bordering Venezuela. The departmental government reported 300,000 hectares of land was flooded. As much as 50% of rural land in the municipality of Arauca has flooded. Flooding has also damaged roads and bridges, leaving areas cut off.
